Mary Zimmerman's
Metamorphoses brings Ovid's tales to stunning visual life. Set
in and around a large pool of water onstage, Metamorphoses
juxtaposes ancient Greek myths and a contemporary sensibility in
both language and image to explore the human condition. From
venture capitalist Midas to undying lovers Baucis and Philemon,
Zimmerman explores time-honored tales in a fresh new setting,
highlighting their relevance to our world today.
“In Book XV of his
Metamorphoses, Ovid predicts, "I shall be read, and through all
the centuries…I shall be living, always." Mary Zimmerman, in the
adaptation of his myths that she wrote [. . .], makes Ovid's
prediction come true in delightful, enthralling, enchanting,
humorous, moving, magical theatrical glory. It's that good.” -
